Introduction

WetClay ("we", "our", "us") operates the website www.wetclay.org and related services (the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Platform.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and families. Our Platform is designed for Indian children ages 3-8 and their parents or guardians.

Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account via Google Sign-In (via Firebase Authentication), we collect your name, email address, and profile picture. Parents or guardians must create accounts on behalf of children.

Child Profile Information (optional): You may choose to provide your child's name, birth year, and preferred language(s) to personalise the content experience.

Payment Information: Subscription payments are processed by Razorpay. We do not store credit card numbers or bank account details. Razorpay may collect payment instrument details as per their privacy policy.

Usage Data: We collect viewing activity (which stories your child watches) associated with your account. This data is not shared externally. You can access your complete viewing history or delete it at any time via the Settings page. Analytics are collected in cookieless mode (GA4 Consent Mode) and do not set tracking cookies.

Device Tokens: If you opt in to push notifications, we store your device token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) to deliver notifications. You can opt out at any time.

Feedback & Uploads: If you submit feedback, we store the text and any attachments you upload (via Firebase Storage).

Comments: If you or your child post a comment on a story, we store the comment text along with your display name and profile picture. Comments are visible to other signed-in families.

Children's Privacy

Our Platform is intended for use by children under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without parental consent.

We do not serve personalised advertisements to children. Nothing on our platform is designed to maximise screen time or keep children hooked.

We do not share, sell, or rent any data related to children with third-party advertisers.

YouTube videos are embedded using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not set tracking cookies.

COPPA Compliance

Data collected from or about children includes: viewing history, child name (optional), birth year (optional), language preferences, and device tokens for push notifications (opt-in only).

This data is used solely for: delivering age-appropriate stories, personalising the content experience based on language and age, and sending push notifications (when opted in).

We do not disclose children's personal information to third-party advertisers or any third parties for marketing purposes.

Parents and guardians have the right to: review their child's personal information by visiting the Settings page or requesting a data export; request deletion of their child's data via the Settings page or by contacting us; revoke consent at any time, which will trigger deletion of the child's data.

Parental consent can be revoked at any time by deleting the account through the Settings page.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

Firebase Authentication — sign-in via Google OAuth.

Razorpay — payment processing (handles subscription billing).

Firebase (Google) — file storage, push notifications, and analytics.

Vercel — hosting and content delivery.

Sentry — error tracking in production (no personally identifiable information is sent).

Each service has its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review them.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use a single essential session cookie (`__session`) for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

We also use a referral cookie (wetclay_ref, 30-day duration) to attribute referrals when you sign up via a friend's link. This cookie contains only a referral code and is not used for tracking or advertising.

Firebase may use local storage for push notification token management.

We store video playback positions in your browser's local storage so your child can resume where they left off. This data stays on your device, is not sent to our servers, and can be cleared from the Settings page (Resume Playback toggle).

Google Analytics (GA4) operates in consent mode with all storage denied by default — no `_ga` or `_gid` cookies are set. Analytics data is collected in aggregate without personal tracking.

Data Retention

Account data is retained as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we soft-delete your record and remove personal information within 30 days.

Payment records are retained as required by Indian tax and financial regulations.

Push notification tokens are automatically cleaned up when they become invalid.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data.

You can download all your data from the Settings page.

You can delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page.

You can unsubscribe from push notifications at any time through the Platform settings.

You can opt out of marketing emails through the Settings page. Transactional emails (account creation confirmation) are not affected.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), secure authentication (Firebase Auth), and access controls.

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Your family's data is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

You have full control over your data. You can download it, review it, or permanently delete it at any time from the Settings page — no questions asked.

Despite our efforts, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.

Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
